Lanita is an exceptional nurse who extends the highest quality, compassionate care through value-based relationship skills, technical expertise, and critical thinking as she gives of herself through hands, mind, and heart - all of the qualities of a DAISY Award Honoree.

Her distinction as a superior nurse was notably exemplified in her recent care for a special needs child. Lanita went above and beyond the call of duty to anticipate the complex requirements of her young patient, as well as those of the patient's mother. Lanita took the initiative to learn as much as possible about the child's regular living situation and behavior to better understand how to meet the patient's needs while receiving treatment at SFMC. She approached the patient with unwavering love, respect and gentleness to help make the child comfortable in an unfamiliar environment.

Lanita worked collaboratively with the other health care disciplines to ensure accurate assessment of, and response to the child's mental, emotional, and physical needs. According to Gretchen Hellgren, Pediatrics Unit Manager, Lanita cared for this patient and family with the "utmost skill, using resources to ultimately get the patient safely back to her residence. She elevated her practice to help ensure a positive patient outcome."
