LT Houston embodies compassion, warmth, authenticity, and devotion in all her endeavors. Upon taking over leadership of the department, it was immediately clear that LT Houston was the "glue" of the clinic, the force that unified the team and a source of leadership and mentorship to the clinic corpsmen. She is a prime example that one does not need a designated leadership title to earn the respect, trust, and effect positive influence on the team. Approachable and non-judgemental, she is entrusted as a listening ear for those in need, whether it be her peers, her subordinates, or her patients. Her trusted leadership is evident in the fact she was voted as the DSS/DCSS Boat Team CO for the second consecutive year. She is a motivational team builder. She works to mitigate conflict rather than let it fester. A leader in patient-centered care and customer service, LT Houston received the "Shining Star" award. To our small community of obstetric patients, she provides a smiling familiar face to the department. She knows each patient and family by name and this connection, this trust adds a layer of quality to the care provided. Undoubtedly, LT Houston exemplifies the DAISY values of promoting trust, compassion, mutual respect, and role modeling of professional and ethical behavior.
