During my stay at Children’s Hospital after open-heart surgery, Nurse Lauren made one of the hardest times of my life feel safer, calmer, and filled with kindness. From the very beginning, she treated me with so much compassion and patience that it immediately eased my fear. After surgery, I was scared, uncomfortable, and overwhelmed. Lauren never made me feel rushed or ignored. She took the time to explain everything she was doing in a way I could understand, constantly checking in to make sure I was okay.

Even the smallest things, adjusting my blankets, helping me get comfortable, or just sitting with me, meant more than she probably realized. Lauren always had a gentle, reassuring attitude. She noticed when I was anxious or in pain, even before I said anything, and she responded quickly with care and empathy. She made sure not only that my physical needs were met, but that I felt emotionally supported too. She made sure I got to go home when all I wanted was to; she was the best.
