He is selfless and self-motivated. He is empathetic and hardworking. I can't help you understand the example this young nurse sets for every new nurse in our profession.
I have seen so many nurses come and go in my 20 year nursing career, but I have never met a nurse like Larett Weaver. To describe one specific situation in which he has helped not only me but the rest of his colleagues as well would be very difficult. I could describe a situation every single day that I work alongside Larett in which he helps not only his patients, their families, his coworkers, or the unit.
Yesterday, on night shift, my patient suddenly cardiac arrested on 6 rose. Larrett ran from 6 Ashman to assist with the code and immediately volunteered to be next in line to perform compressions. Tonight on night shift he heard I was getting a patient and while I was getting report he set up the entire room before I ever ended my phone call. He then proceeded to assist me in everything necessary to stabilize and admit the patient. He then proceeded to clean rooms of patients that had just been discharged as well as every single dirty pump in the entire unit. He was never asked to do any of it....he just does it.
Every day that he works he finds ways to help each and every one of us. When a nurse gets up to help a patient bathe or use the restroom Larett gets up to help. When a phone or a call bell rings....Larett gets out of his seat to help even if he had already done it 20 times in a row that day. He is selfless and self-motivated. He is empathetic and hardworking. I can't help you understand the example this young nurse sets for every new nurse in our profession. He is an example of what every young nurse should strive to be. Furthermore, he is an example to every experienced nurse that compassion and caring still exist. If each one of us followed that example that Larett sets for his colleagues....what an amazing transformation the healthcare system as a whole could take.
