October 2025 Honoree
Larisa Ilyuk, RN
Larisa managed the complex and intensive care needs of the patient by collaborating with Anesthesia to determine the patient’s needs.
She assessed the patient and determined the Veteran wasn’t responding to treatment (persistent vomiting and retching), which led the team to initiate further intervention to rule out complications related to the individual’s vomiting.
Larisa provided emotional and comforting reassurance to the patient while keeping the Veteran informed about the care being received. She explained everything from the medications given to the continuing intervention. The patient spent a total of six hours in the PACU, and Larisa stayed by the Veteran’s side the entire time.
