Dear LaShawn,
First, I want to start with a quote that I believe describes you in the best way possible and that is said by no other but yours truly...Prince. So, it goes, 'Compassion is an action word that knows no boundaries.' LaShawn, your compassion for your patients and to teach is so empowering and whether you know it or not you are a true-life changer and impact maker. I can only hope that you see how much your patients enjoy you and love you because let me tell you to be the one looking in you should see how your patients light up when you come in the room. To see this has been the most rewarding and inspiring time I have had throughout my career in nursing school. I yearn to make the same relationships you have made and to be an impact in others' lives. The basis of nursing is driven by compassion and I am so grateful that I was able to experience what nursing means and to have a wonderful teacher to teach the true meaning of being a nurse.
Thank you. Thank you for accepting me as who I am and allowing me to be myself and to thrive within that. Thank you for making every experience a life-changing one. Thank you for all the times you made me do something even if I was unsure of my own abilities to do it. Thank you for every joke and every rule we had. Thank you for doing a rain dance with me even when we looked like crazies in the middle of the hallway. Thank you for coming into the room with blue lipstick. Thank you for introducing me and writing my name on each whiteboard in every room. Thank you for not treating me as just another student, but for treating me with kindness and respect. Thank you for being there when I didn't know what I was doing. Thank you for laughing at me when I didn't know how to burp a baby. Thank you for going out of your way to do things for me when you didn't have to.
Lastly, thank you for being the person who has impacted me the most in nursing school, your presence is a true blessing to everyone you meet and I am so beyond grateful that God placed you in my life because whether you know it or not I needed you more than you know in these past months. Thank you for being you.
