She not only explained B’s condition in a thoughtful and caring way but also shared touching stories about the conversations they had during the week. Her words moved me to tears, and when I broke down, LT didn’t hesitate to offer a comforting hug.
My sister, B, a retired nurse, was admitted to Elmhurst Hospital. She had advanced Parkinson’s disease, was unable to speak, and was struggling to breathe. At just 85 pounds, she had bravely battled this illness for nearly two decades and had been in and out of hospitals in recent years. When I arrived, I was met by LT, the nurse who had been caring for B over the past few days. LT was the consummate professional, providing not only excellent medical care but also extraordinary warmth and compassion. It was immediately clear that B felt safe and comforted by LT’s presence. Even with her limited energy, she lit up when LT entered the room. Knowing that this would likely be my sister’s final hospital stay, I followed LT into the hallway to ask for an update. Despite the demands of her shift, LT took the time to speak with me. She not only explained B’s condition in a thoughtful and caring way but also shared touching stories about the conversations they had during the week. Her words moved me to tears, and when I broke down, LT didn’t hesitate to offer a comforting hug. That simple act of kindness meant the world to me. A few days later, my sister returned home under hospice care and passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. As my nephew and I reflected on her final week, we felt deep gratitude for the compassion and care LT showed B and our entire family. LT is an exceptional caregiver, and I want Elmhurst Hospital to know what a treasure they have in her. She helped ease our pain during one of the most difficult times in our lives. We will forever hold LT in the highest regard and remain beyond grateful to have met her.
