Latoya P Gathers, RN

You know those people who light up a room? The ones who can make you smile no matter what? Latoya is one of those people. Latoya genuinely cares for her patients and treats them like she would want her family to be treated. There are so many stories that I could share that show Latoya’s compassion and this story is no different.

Recently, Latoya was taking care of a patient in C-pod. The patient has been in and out of the hospital recently with many medical issues. The patient was recently diagnosed with cancer with Mets to multiple areas and has not had an appetite. Latoya, during her lunch break, was headed to pick up a birthday Bundt cake for a staff member who was working on her birthday. (Like I said, always thinking of others.) While at the Bundt cake store, she thought of her patient who has been down and not hungry. Latoya decided to brighten the patient and her husband’s day by bringing them Bundt cakes decorated with sunflowers on them. The patient and husband were teary-eyed, touched, and so grateful for the small act of kindness Latoya showed them. I know that this meant so much to them. We are so grateful to have her on our team.
