Latoya Parks from the Medical Intensive Care Unit was recognized as the DAISY Award Honoree for October 2017. The committee received several heartfelt letters from the family of a Veteran in appreciation of the care that he received by Ms. Parks in the Emergency Room (where she had been detailed), and then during his tenure in MICU.
The Veteran's daughter stated the following, "…Ms. Parks first encountered my dad when he was admitted to the emergency room, and he was very disoriented and confused, but she began to comfort him and let him know that he would be okay…" The daughter continued the letter by stating how patient and kind Ms. Parks was to the patient and even commended her for being an emotional outlet for the family during this tough time. The daughter concluded the letter by stating, "If God ever gave us an Angel, it would be you. Please don't ever change your loving ways…you not only helped our dad, but you gave our family a feeling of ease and comfort knowing that you would personally be looking after our Dad!"
