A patient, exhausted from frequent complications of his disease process was facing another visit to the Emergency Department and another hospitalization. The patient, depressed, feeling poorly, exhausted and frustrated was cared for by the "new" ED Nurse LaToya. LaToya was able to comfort the patient and provide the needed spirit to support the patient. Because of LaToya, the patient kept up the fight and his will to heal and gain strength. While being cared for in the Emergency Department, the patient wrote his DAISY nomination about LaToya as he watched her care for not just himself but for the other patients. LaToya treated everyone with kindness, compassion and gave hope, regardless of the disease process.
