I have watched her take her time to hear about their personal lives and not want to see or talk to someone else because she makes them feel comfortable sharing. I have watched her talk to someone yelling at her, who was later thanking her for her kindness despite how she was being treated.
I work with Tracy daily and get to see the amazing work that she does with our veterans. However, I had a veteran who came in for a blood pressure check who wanted to thank Tracy for the amazing work she does. The veteran said he learned he had a sickle cell disease long ago, but when he was at the visit to see the doctor, Tracy was reviewing his chart and took the time to teach him about the disease.

The veteran said she taught him more about the disease than anyone had ever taken the time to do. He said not only did it inform him of what the disease was, but also the precautions he should be taking to avoid complications of the long-term complications the illness could cause. He reports being vaccinated for everything he could because of her. He said what she has done for him changed his life, and he asks questions because of what she taught him. He said he didn't realize that he could react differently to medications because of this illness.

He said he was even more grateful for her because he was getting ready to get married and because of what she taught him; he was going to ask the provider about prescribing medication to assist with intimacy. Because of Tracy's education, the patient learned how to speak to his provider and was educated that his disease increases the adverse events of the medication by 50% and could have been disastrous and turned into a medical emergency on his wedding night.

The veteran said that her bedside manner and empathy for her veterans could have saved him from harm because she pays attention to the things that sometimes even the doctors miss. He said he will never forget what she has done for him, and it has changed how he will continue to talk to his provider about how some things affect him differently because of his diagnosis.

This is just one example of the countless compliments I hear about Tracy. The veterans feel like she listens and pays attention. They like to talk to her because they feel like she goes out of her way to make sure they get what they need. I have watched her take her time to hear about their personal lives and not want to see or talk to someone else because she makes them feel comfortable sharing. I have watched her talk to someone yelling at her, who was later thanking her for her kindness despite how she was being treated.

Tracy is an example of how we want to be treated at a doctor's visit. She's willing to help other nurses, stay late, and go out of her way to communicate needs to the provider so things don't get missed. When I was moved to this team, I was told she was a force to be reckoned with. She truly is because of her attention to detail, enormous heart, affection, sympathy, and understanding of others.
