Laura has gone above and beyond to help a mutual patient with complex medical needs. Initially, the 10-month-old patient was uninsured and had many barriers to care due to financial and language barriers. Laura explored many options to ensure the patient had access to necessary medication assisted in completing paperwork and coordinated with other agencies over the course of multiple days during their first inpatient admission. Laura continued to check on the patient after discharge to see if there were any other resources available. She very quickly responded by providing the family with prescription coupons when they were worried about the cost of necessary medication even though the patient was not currently in the office.

Once the patient had insurance, Laura quickly coordinated with other specialties to ensure appointments were obtained as soon as possible knowing it would be difficult for the family to navigate the phone system due to the language barrier and recognizing the importance of timely follow-up due to the medical history. She even helped with technical support when the patient was trying to access a telehealth visit.

Laura has always made herself available to me when I have questions about mutual patients, and she is always willing to help regardless if the patient is currently admitted or receiving outpatient care. Without her help and diligence with this patient, he would have likely encountered many complications from his medical needs and would have experienced a delay in care.
