Laura also advocated for him countless times. She brought up so many important aspects of his care to the Med team.
Laura cared for Mr. G many times over his lengthy stay. Due to a stroke, Mr. G was unable to speak or assist in his care. Laura played such a pivotal role in his care I had to recognize her efforts. Laura was so attentive to him and took the extra time to be able to figure out his needs as he was unable to voice them. She bridled his feeding tube so he didn’t have to be restrained making him more comfortable.

Laura also advocated for him countless times. She brought up so many important aspects of his care to the Med team. The first one being skincare which they were not aware of. She noted how uncomfortable he was and got treatment for it then ensured it worked. Secondly, she requested having speech come reassess his swallowing ability after she noted how much better he was doing with mouth care. Next, she worked alongside PT and OT to ensure he got the best therapy as he was bedbound.

But there is one thing Laura did that is the best part for me. As his brother was unable to come in she made sure he was up to date on his care daily. One day he happened to call while we were in the room and she placed it on speaker and Mr. G had a smile ear to ear and happily moaned when he heard his brother. She described his reaction to his brother and at that moment through my tear-filled eyes, I knew Laura became a nurse for all the right reasons. Thank you Laura for shooting for the stars and making sure Mr. G got the best care.
