In such a scary moment of handing my baby to my husband and not feeling okay, this is where Laura saved my life.
I have had the pleasure of having Laura as my nurse twice. The first time was after I went through a very long labor turned emergent C-section. Laura greeted me on the postpartum side and made me get right out of bed as soon as I could feel my legs. I thought she was joking… What an excruciating amount of pain that was, but she was right by my side when I needed help the most and was extremely vulnerable. She was compassionate and patient with me, not a sign of annoyance. She took such amazing care of me during that stay and even showed us how to style my infant’s hair; my son sported that signature mohawk for months and months!
But the second time I had Laura as my nurse was really why I am nominating her for a DAISY. 6:30 AM OR start time, selflessly, she rearranged scheduling and came in extra early to be my nurse. From the moment I walked into the OR with her she had my best interest at heart. I felt safe and I trusted her. During the administration of anesthesia and my c-section, she was empathetic and in tune with me when I was off; she knew when something was off, encouraged me to speak up, and conveyed great patient advocacy on my behalf. She talked me through moments when I felt out of my mind in the OR and wanted off the table.
In a room full of people in the OR, hearing her voice and updates was a comfort I needed. Back in the recovery room shortly after, something was wrong. I looked at her and everything was a blur from there. In such a scary moment of handing my baby to my husband and not feeling okay, this is where Laura saved my life. Her reactive instincts kicked in and got to work while staying calm and comforting. Her teamwork with another nurse and Doctor was seen but in the moment handled flawlessly in not scaring me even more or my husband. I had a PPH and by the time my doctor made it back to the room, Laura had it under control and had my baby back in my arms. For this, my family can’t thank Laura enough.
Laura, you made us laugh and happy every shift we spent with you. The love you have for your job and patients is so evident in every interaction we experienced with you. We were so grateful to have you be part of both of our son's births.
