My father was a patient for 4 days in the Medical ICU. My dad was critically ill and needed to be put on the ventilator to help him breathe because he couldn't breathe on his own. Laura explained everything well about what was going on with my father. She patiently explained things to us, sometimes more than once, until we got it. She made sure my sisters and I and my mom knew what was going on with my dad. She comforted us and gave us good advice. She helped me and my family comprehend what was about to happen to my dad. She and the other medical staff worked tirelessly and diligently to try to save my dad's life. But unfortunately, he passed away.

My dad meant everything to me; we were super close and did everything together. Laura made sure I was okay and still to this day checks on me, because I work at the same VA as her, working in the housekeeping department. Laura's tireless, devoted, and skilled passion for our father's well-being made a huge impression on us. She stood out as a nurse willing and able to go beyond the normal call of duty.
