I would like to recognize Laura because she has made such a meaningful impact on my nursing school journey.

She is always willing to help, whether it is with assignments, clinical questions, or personal challenges outside of school. Laura consistently makes time for students and goes above and beyond to ensure we feel supported. She has been a listening ear for me during difficult times, offered encouragement when I needed it most, and helped me stay motivated throughout nursing school. She truly defines what it means to be a nurse educator through her compassion, dedication, and genuine care for her students, and I am grateful for the positive difference she has made in my life.

I nominate Laura because she embraces everything a nurse educator should be: compassionate, supportive, organized, knowledgeable, and deeply invested in the success of her students. She consistently demonstrates that she cares about us not only as students, but as people.

As a single mother balancing nursing school and family responsibilities, there were many moments when I doubted myself. Laura wrote letters of recommendation that helped me secure important opportunities, but what meant even more was what she wrote in those letters. She highlighted strengths in me that I struggled to see in myself and gave me the confidence to keep going when the journey felt overwhelming.

During my oncology preceptorship, she was an incredible source of support. She was always available to answer questions, provide advice, and offer encouragement. As I cared for patients facing terminal illness and end-of-life decisions, she listened with empathy and helped me process difficult experiences while growing professionally.

When I struggled with scheduling challenges, she immediately sat down with me, worked through the barriers, and developed a realistic plan. What felt impossible quickly became manageable because of her organization, responsiveness, and problem-solving skills.

As an educator, her teaching style is exceptional. Her courses are organized, engaging, and challenging. She presents complex concepts in a way that is understandable and approachable, using stories from her extensive nursing experience to bring the material to life. Most importantly, she recognizes that her students are whole people with lives, responsibilities, and emotions outside the classroom, and she meets us with empathy and understanding.

I can honestly say that I do not know if I would have made it through nursing school without her. She has influenced not only my education, but also the kind of nurse I aspire to become. Her compassion, dedication, and unwavering belief in her students have left a lasting impact on my life, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.

Laura Burns is an exceptional human being and a compassionate educator who looks through our eyes to teach at our level. She has made complicated concepts work together and actually make enough sense for me to apply them in clinical. We need educated nurses who can explain to patients what is happening, how it impacts their health, and what is being done to restore their health. Laura prepares us to do exactly that. She keeps our patients safe and helps us become competent nurses. She is also highly motivated, constantly updating her course material and remaining actively engaged, which is a tremendous inspiration.

Laura Burns is not only an amazing professor, but also an amazing person. She truly cares about each and every one of her students. She went above and beyond for me personally when I experienced a conflict during finals, taking time out of her own schedule to administer and proctor my exams. Laura is one of the kindest and most supportive professors I have ever had, and I will forever be grateful for the immense support she provided throughout nursing school.

Laura made my first year of nursing school doable. She always goes above and beyond when teaching essential nursing content and genuinely cares about her students as individuals, their learning experiences, and their journeys. She never shames students for answering incorrectly or for asking what might seem like silly questions. She is a bright and calming ray of sunshine whose influence has forever touched the lives of the students who have had the privilege of learning from her. She should have received this recognition long ago.

Laura is an amazing and dedicated instructor who is always willing to go above and beyond for her students. Her lectures are interactive, and she never leaves a student behind when someone has a question or is struggling to understand a topic. She built such a strong foundation during our first year that our second year was much easier to build upon.

During practicum, she was always accommodating and continually asked how she could go the extra mile to support us during our final quarter. I genuinely cannot thank her enough. She makes the CBC Nursing Program what it is—a program that prepares students for success on the NCLEX and in real-world nursing.

Thank you, Laura.
