Laura recently cared for a patient who had been admitted at only 22 weeks pregnant and it was anticipated that she would deliver a baby who would most likely not survive, as this gestation is too early for viability. This was an extremely challenging situation because the patient wanted to do everything possible to save her pregnancy and hold off delivery.
Laura went above and beyond to advocate for her patient, involving the NICU team, high-risk OB physician, social services and many others. She made multiple calls to advocate for effective pain relief for the patient.
This patient was able to hold onto her pregnancy and remains pregnant as this nomination is written.
Laura is one of those nurses who truly loves her job, comes to work with a positive attitude, gives excellent care to her patients, advocates for the best possible care, and is well respected by her peers and the physicians who work with her.
