Laura has always been so helpful, kind, positive, and supportive to her staff. She always is able to look at the bright side of the situation and make the most out of poor difficult situations.
Laura consistently shows up to work 20-30 minutes early to help on the floor during the rush hour and last med pass. On multiple occasions, Laura has helped me with passing meds, hanging a bag of IV nutrition, explaining a complicated procedure, and answering my questions all before clocking into her night shift.

Laura's heart for the patients and staff on 2 East is evident in the way that she treats people and goes above and beyond in every effort to meet a patient's needs make them more comfortable and support the nursing staff. There was one night shift where we had a patient who was starting to show symptoms that she was about to go into a seizure. While I was on the phone with the doctor getting meds ordered, Laura stepped in and anticipated and met my needs before I could even ask. She waited with the patient and got suction set up and called a rapid. When I got back with the medications, she calmly stepped out and told me that the patient was seizing. I got the rapid medication and talked with the doctors and rapid response nurse, and Laura had the continuous IV meds going before I even finished. We had a nearly seamless response and in record time had stopped the seizure and stabilized the patient. In a situation that could have been very stressful, I felt more supported by my charge nurse.

Laura has always been so helpful, kind, positive, and supportive to her staff. She always is able to look at the bright side of the situation and make the most out of poor difficult situations. I know it has been hard recently with staffing on the night shift and it can be discouraging, but all the while I see Laura still showing up early to help, taking two patients on top of charging, and continuing to put her best foot forward in the middle of the difficulties. Laura exemplifies every aspect of a nurse fit for a DAISY Award and is well deserving of one. Not only is she an amazing nurse and charge, but she has become a sweet friend to me whom I look forward to seeing, and whom I look up to. She is able to shift the atmosphere to a joyful positive light and it's contagious, in a good way. She is well worthy of this award.
