Our unit just wanted to say how thankful we are to have Laura on our staff as NNP. We had a very stressful, scary and emergent situation with a vaginal delivery. The couple was having their first baby and had waited a long time for a baby. Labor was long and the delivery was extremely difficult. We knew the baby was not going to come out kicking and screaming so we called Laura to attend the delivery. The baby was born limp, pale, and not breathing. Laura kicked into gear and lead our team like a true leader. She remained calm, cool, and collected as she ran the code. If it wasn't for Laura's presence and expertise the outcome would have been way different.
Laura was able to stabilize the baby in a timely manner and was able to transfer the baby out. We all were so worried about this baby and felt so sorry for the parents. They were so worried about their baby, but Laura was able to reassure them with accurate information.
The baby did well while in NICU and was able to come off of cooling early and remained seizure-free. The baby was discharged home with the parents.
We believe the baby did so well in part because of Laura's actions. Our NNPs are so invaluable to us and we appreciate her more than she knows.
