Her smile (even under a mask) is contagious and shines so brightly!
I would like to nominate Laura Demaray for a DAISY Award. She is our in-patient wound/ostomy nurse here at Saint Alphonsus Ontario. She is so deserving as her clinical skills and most especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse our patients, families and our staff recognize as an outstanding role model.
What I appreciate about Laura the most is her positive attitude and outlook on even the grimmest of situations. Her smile (even under a mask) is contagious and shines so brightly! As house supervisor with the office across from hers, I see and hear her spend countless hours researching wound care materials with vendors trying to find just the right products for her ostomy patients. She goes out of her way to make sure they are all well taken care of. She is so eager to make sure our patients have the best, most up-to-date wound care products!
Laura is new to wound/ostomy care and has built her little department on her own to be extremely successful. She worked hard and got her WOCN certification so she could have the expert knowledge to give the best care to her patients. She has brought back the “Pressure Ulcer Prevalence” in coordination with staff nurses to decrease patient incidences of pressure ulcers during hospitalization. Even uses her own funding to purchase cute little PUPS puppies to give out. Laura will always stay late to ensure all patients are seen when she is here, even if a new order is placed late in the day. She responds to secure chat and offers her personal number to staff if assistance or consultation is needed on a wound on her days off and even on vacation! We are so lucky to have such a special, caring nurse here in Ontario!
