Everything Laura does and says stems from her belief that at the end of the day, the patient comes first.
For the past 15+ years, Laura Everett has been the 3 West Nurse Manager here at UMASS. Over the years, Laura has taken many people under her wing and provided them with the tools to build their nursing foundation. Whether it be encouraging staff to advance their practice, further their education, or move on to the next chapter of their careers, Laura has always been the supportive cheerleader. She kindheartedly and genuinely wants others to succeed. She has mentored many individuals who have gone on to become UMASS’s future leaders. She has a keen eye for identifying future leaders and providing them with opportunities, resources, and feedback to help them reach their full potential. She is always looking for the next Laura Everett. She molds individuals into team players, individuals who possess the same passion for quality and patient care satisfaction that she herself takes such pride in. Everything Laura does and says stems from her belief that at the end of the day, the patient comes first. Laura often shares her own experiences, both personal and professional, in a candid manner that helps others relate and learn. She does this by being transparent and acknowledging her own faults, as something she will always tell you, “I’m working on it.” Laura is not only the consummate professional, but she is also funny and witty. Laura is not one to remain silent when there is something that needs to be said, making her a great advocate. Even during the most stressful of times, we can always count on Laura to give us a chuckle with one of her many passionate tangents that she may go on. We feel that Laura Everett signifies everything that the DAISY Award stands for, which is the honoring of a nurse who provides above-and-beyond compassionate care. In the case of Laura, that above-and-beyond compassionate care that she gives to her staff and fellow colleagues through mentoring and coaching ultimately gives those that are on the frontlines the ability to deliver the relentless care our patients deserve and expect.
