Laura made me feel so comfortable. If it was not for her I would have given up on breastfeeding, which I did not want to do.
My precious baby was born 2 weeks early and is just an adorable little nugget. We had some feeding issues from the start, trouble latching correctly, weight loss, the normal newborn breastfeeding woes I suppose. While in the hospital we got a visit with Laura for a lactation consult. She was so kind and helpful, we worked on latching and she showed me how to use my breast pump. She was knowledgeable and patient.

After we got home, I knew something was not right. M was fussy and taking forever to eat and never satisfied. I called the breastfeeding clinic to make an appointment. We got in a day or two later and guess who we saw? Our favorite nurse, Laura! She watched me feed M, listened to my concerns, and offered her advice. First, we corrected her latch. The next week we formulated a plan to increase my milk supply which had plummeted due to the inconsistent eating. Maya was still struggling to stay awake and eat, and not gaining enough weight. We started supplementing with pumped milk and slowly but surely Laura got us on the right path.

About 3 weeks into seeing Laura we agreed she may have a tongue tie that needs to be corrected since we still weren’t getting the results we wanted even with a perfect latch and increased milk supply. She got us a referral to the oral surgeon, we got our tongue tie repaired and after a few days, M and I were finally getting a good rhythm. M started gaining weight, eating on the breast as she should, and becoming a happy baby!

We followed up for a few more visits to ensure weight gain and good eating were continued. We saw Laura each time, except for one, and she was so encouraging and positive. She made me feel so comfortable. If it was not for her I would have given up on breastfeeding, which I did not want to do. It was very important to me that I could give my baby the best choice for her. So thank you so much to Laura and nurses like her who listen and encourage their patients to reach their goals.
