Last weekend, Laura volunteered as a vaccinator with the Swedish COVID vaccine clinic. This isn't anything new for her - she always steps up to give flu vaccinations to our team and has done more than her share of volunteering with Swedish caregiver vaccine clinics, Lumen Field for the community, and two community clinics in Olympia - totaling over 85 hours. What stood out on Saturday was her interaction with a young man with special needs. His parents were both with him, but he was apprehensive about getting the shot. Laura established rapport with him - learned his name, engaged him and got him to laugh. She spoke to him and explained each step she was making and checked in with him before moving on. Of course, the vaccination was a success, with many big smiles from all involved. Laura brings many talents to her role as a Nurse Manager, but her ability and willingness to see the need and meet a patient where they are, to see them as an individual human being, is a place where she truly shines. What a marvelous demonstration of compassion and dignity.
