Using a soothing voice, Laura is recognized for her ability to calm and comfort her patients during times of high anxiety. This was particularly evident recently with the care provided to a patient in the Cardiac Cath Lab. Scheduled for an angiogram, it was apparent at the start of the procedure that this patient would have a difficult time lying still for any length of time. Despite receiving procedural sedation and an explanation of the importance of lying still, this patient was still anxious and moving about on the procedure table. If unable to lie still, there is a possibility of the provider only taking images and not be able to perform interventions. Without prompt, Laura positioned herself at the head of the bed and began massaging the patient's temples. She engaged him in conversation and discussed a variety of topics that included his family and his farm. Laura remained at the head of the bed and continued to massage his temples during the entire 140-minute procedure. Never once did she complain, ask for someone to relieve her, or appear inconvenienced. Her genuine concern for this patient was evident in her tone of voice and personal touch. After the procedure was complete, the staff in the room stated "thanks to Laura, we were able to do the entire case."
