... After meeting Laura for the first time, it was obvious that she is an outstanding nurse. When I think of Laura, I think of a woman with many hats. Laura is a team player, as evidence by her active involvement as the Surgical Professional Practice Council representative who works hard to address her fellow peer's concerns and gives the unit a voice. She also impeccably brings back important and current information to the unit at both monthly staff meetings and unit based huddles. Laura values the importance of teamwork and organization as evidence when she reaches out to fellow peers and offers assistance without hesitation. I would like to note that this is not an isolated instance, but she does this on a daily basis.
Laura is a great teacher. She is actively a nurse preceptor and has trained numerous of new grads throughout the years. She makes this responsibility seem easy, as she effortlessly takes them under her wing. Not only is Laura very kind, but she maintains her cool during hectic, stressful, and emergent situations. Laura also plans to become a nurse mentor in the near future.
Laura treats everyone she comes into contact as a member of her own family; including patients, staff, residents, physicians and visitors. On a daily basis, she expresses a warm and caring attitude where she genuinely is concerned for your well being and best possible outcome. Perhaps it is her motherly instincts, but Laura always puts others' needs before her own.
