Liz's extensive experience and passion for helping others was evident in her every action!

Liz from the Special Care Unit at Children's National Hospital was the night nurse that was assigned to care for our 6-year-old son after surgery. This was our first time at Children's National and our son's first major surgery that resulted in inserting two metal rods in his arm. Our son was in extensive pain coming out of surgery. We met Liz who was incredibly professional and competent. She quickly assessed our son's condition before she jumped into action, demonstrating her noteworthy leadership.

Liz promptly got our son settled with his arm elevated, took his vitals, and reviewed his chart. She narrated exactly what she was doing and why, which helped us feel at ease. She brought linens and towels for my husband and me. She communicated clearly and concisely to explain how she was going to manage our son's pain, outlining her strategy, and coordinating closely with the resident doctor. She was incredibly responsive when we needed to call her during the night. She had a touching rapport with my 6-year-old son, who couldn't understand a lot of what he was experiencing coming out of anesthesia. Liz tailored her communications to whomever she was talking and had a natural gift to put people at ease. Her extensive experience and passion for helping others was evident in her every action!

Liz exemplifies all characteristics a nurse should aspire to have including: compassion, communication, empathy, problem-solving, attention to detail, and above all, trust! Liz's demonstrated mentorship will benefit Children's National for years to come, as she willingly shared her expertise with others. Liz shaped our son's vital first hours of healing and he is better because of her.
