Laura exemplifies what it means to be a compassionate nurse. She has the experience, the skills, and the instincts to catch post-op complications before they occur and I'm amazed when watching her work. Laura has been an RN for 25 years this year, yet she still has the spark and gives care to her patients with the happy ambition of someone who is starting their first day. Her patients are her number one priority.
We had a young man come through for surgery and end in PACU in Laura's care. Through assessment and speaking with him, Laura came to the conclusion this man was homeless. When she transported him to his room, she confirmed what she thought to be true. The next morning, Laura came in with her arms full of bags spilling over onto the surgery desk, asking for help to pick through clothes and items she had brought from her own home for the young man. Laura is always giving of her own volition. She is nothing short of amazing!
