March 2026 Honoree
Laura Martin, RN
My wife has been a patient in the ward during an incredibly difficult and frightening time for our family. With her cognitive difficulties, consistency, reassurance, and attentive care have been essential. Laura has provided all of this, and more, with exceptional warmth and professionalism.
Laura is incredibly organised and proactive. She took care of organising her scans and ensured everything ran smoothly, which removed a huge amount of stress for us as a family. She consistently checked in on her to make sure she was comfortable and safe, including during the night while she was asleep. Knowing that Laura was quietly keeping an eye on her gave us immense peace of mind.
What truly sets Laura apart is the way she cares not only for my wife, but for everyone around her. She looks after other patients in the ward with the same attentiveness, and she makes a point of coming over to Sushila and our family simply to check how we are doing and say hello. When we mention needing anything, Laura is prompt, calm, and reliable. Things get done without fuss, and always with kindness.
Laura went above and beyond in ways that mattered deeply to my wife. She gave her a massage, an act of compassion that brought comfort and connection at a time when she needed it most. With my wife's cognitive challenges, this kind of gentle, personal care is not optional; it is essential, and Laura intuitively understands that.
Laura’s presence has made a genuinely difficult experience more bearable. Her care feels thoughtful, deliberate, and deeply human. Laura treats my wife with dignity, patience, and respect, and she treats our family as part of the care journey. Laura exemplifies what nursing should be, and we are profoundly grateful for the care she has given.
