Because of this LPN's commitment to their patients and excellence in patient care, advocating for their patients, and maintaining trust, the patient received the care he needed. He was admitted to the hospital to the hospital for treatment, possibly saving his life.
Laura Pitmon is an excellent LPN. She was checking in a patient and noticed that his blood pressure was low at 83/51. The patient stated he was fine, and sometimes it is low. This LPN exhibited integrity and insisted on taking it again and waited for 5 minutes per protocol, and checked his blood pressure again, and it was still low at 84/52.
During those 5 minutes, they waited in between blood pressure readings, and because of this LPN's commitment to providing the best care, she looked in the patient's chart and noted he had a history of GI bleed; the patient's pulse was also elevated, along with his respirations. Then the patient dozed off a little, which she thought, along with his vital signs, was alarming. The LPN went and talked with the doctor, and told him their findings, and he stated that yes, the patient sometimes runs low.
This LPN then advocated for the patient, stating to the doctor, but also showing him respect that as Laura noted in the patient's chart, he had a history of a GI bleed, and asked if they could order some labs. The doctor ordered a panel of labs, and the patient came back with sepsis with elevated lactic acid 4.6, WBC 23, and Westergren 78. Because of this LPN's commitment to their patients and excellence in patient care, advocating for their patients, and maintaining trust, the patient received the care he needed. He was admitted to the hospital to the hospital for treatment, possibly saving his life.
