Laura is always willing to stop whatever she is doing to listen to team members when they have a concern or question.
Prior to becoming ACM, Laura was an RN in the Mother-Baby/Perinatal Surveillance Unit. Having this frontline experience has given her a great understanding of what it's like at the bedside. This gives her a unique perspective that allows her to support our team in a meaningful way.
Laura is always willing to stop whatever she is doing to listen to team members when they have a concern or question. She may be extremely busy herself, but she takes the time to stop and focus on our needs and doesn't ever make you feel rushed. This helps everyone to feel like they are important and truly being heard. Laura supports our Unit Council initiatives and helps projects get implemented successfully. She is a great problem-solver and genuinely cares about our patients and staff.
Laura is passionate about our patient population and their unique needs. For instance, she has been an exemplary leader by advocating for the proper placement of our Gyne patients. We've had a few instances where we had Gyne patients admitted to our unit who were young and requiring a hysterectomy. These patients desired to have children but will now be unable to. Being on our unit can be a traumatic experience for these patients as they are likely to hear crying and see signage/messaging in the room about moms and babies. Laura took this issue head-on and escalated it with the management team to come up with a solution.
As a direct result of her efforts, the clinic now informs patients during their pre-surgical intake of the possibility of being on the MB unit to give them the chance to be placed elsewhere. She also researches the possible Gyne patient admissions the week prior to address any concerns proactively. She has gone above and beyond to ensure our patients are comfortable and provide the best care for their needs. Laura is an amazing role model in how to show patients the respect and empathy that we want Advocate Health to be known for. Our unit is beyond fortunate to have Laura as our leader and appreciate all she does!
