Laura was attentive, caring, reassuring, and helped us make necessary and timely decisions in order to get an MRI taken that would reveal the source of the pain and the way forward.
This is an overdue request. In honor of our medical people on the front lines today and always bringing care and compassion, I am reminded of the outstanding care my 87-year-old mother received from Laura. My mom was brought in by ambulance in extreme back pain and nausea from a reaction to pain meds. Laura was attentive, caring, reassuring, and helped us make necessary and timely decisions in order to get an MRI taken that would reveal the source of the pain and the way forward. She was kind to my mom and to me as a concerned daughter feeling somewhat helpless in the situation. That alone qualifies her for a DAISY Award but there is more.
As we sat in our room a sweet song came from outside - an old song -"You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey - you get a line and I'll get pole, babe..." That was a song my dad and I used to sing together when I was a little girl. I had never heard anyone else sing that song. My dad died 6 years ago and in that moment of uncertainty at the hospital, I was reminded that I was not alone. He was with us. And we were in capable hands. I asked Laura if she knew who was singing in the hallway - and she said, "Oh that was me." I told her how much I appreciated her singing and that song in particular. So since then, I have been intending to submit her name and story for this award. My gratitude continues to this day and beyond for the care and the sweet moment we shared.
