Laura goes above and beyond when it comes to caring for her patients. She has a huge heart and doesn't turn off her compassion when her shift ends. Laura was assigned as the nurse caring for an adult patient in one of the trauma rooms. The patient was an inpatient employee who had a medical scare during their shift and needed to be transferred to an adult facility across the street. Laura's shift was coming to an end and she had to give report in order for her to be able to go home. Instead of going home, Laura clocked out and returned to the trauma room. She wanted to be a distraction for the upset employee patient and didn't want her to feel alone while she was waiting to be transported. This nurse sat in the room talking to and establishing rapport with the former stranger as if they had been friends for years. She stayed at the bedside as a source of support until the ambulance arrived for transport. When asked why she did it, Laura responded that "It's a scary situation, I wouldn't want anybody to feel alone during that time and this way, she didn't have to be." She truly has a heart of gold and gives her all to every patient and family that she encounters.
