Her cheerful attitude is refreshing, and her dedication to treating the whole patient has meant more than words can say.
This was my husband's second stay with Laura, either as his nurse or the charge nurse. When I arrived to visit, she immediately recognized me and said that although she was sad to see my husband back in the hospital, she was happy to see his face. This was a particularly challenging admission for my husband, and Laura responded with compassion, concern, and understanding not just of what my husband was going through but what I was going through as a caregiver. It is apparent that she loves her job, and as charge RN, she always jumped to support the team. She respected my expert knowledge of my husband's very complex medical conditions and validated my frustrations with a medical system that is not always easy to navigate. She supported my advocacy for my husband and ensured that both of our needs were met. The concern and pain in her eyes when she watched me melt down in tears, was a comfort, and she immediately moved to make sure my concerns were voiced to the appropriate people. Her cheerful attitude is refreshing, and her dedication to treating the whole patient has meant more than words can say. The hospital is a better place with Laura on staff.
