My mother had surgery recently. My mother, who is generally not one to worry, even when it comes to health matters, was particularly nervous about this surgery. That was until Nurse Laura came to the room. She immediately put my mom at ease and was very kind. What especially helped was her ability to fully explain to my mom the next steps, the checks to occur, who would be attending to her and coming in the room, etc. etc. Throughout each step of the process, we were already well versed in what was to come next. She made sure to introduce my mother to the nurse who would be attending to her during surgery, answered all questions my mother had, and was with her every step of the way. In a day when nurses can rush the process, Nurse Laura instead took her time and was truly compassionate and caring. My mom even told her "you've put me at such ease that I almost forgot I was headed into surgery." While we followed up as a family with flowers and a card, I just had to be sure to also write a brief note. She is one of a kind.
