Laura demonstrates extreme compassion, caring and always uses her knowledge of many years in her daily practice of nursing. On one particular day, Laura was assigned a patient in recovery after a colonoscopy.
The patient's procedure had been uneventful. Upon awakening from his procedure, Laura noticed the subtle hint of a facial droop and slightly slurred speech. While this would not have been easy to find, she found it and said something about it, correctly identifying warning signs of a stroke.
The stroke team was activated, and the patient was rushed to radiology for a CT Scan where early identification of a stroke put the patient in a position to have all medical options available. Laura's quick, attentive, critical thinking skills made a real difference in this patient's life. What an attentive, informed, and thorough nurse she is. We are blessed to have her caring for our patients.
