I was so impressed with her demeanor and skill-set.
I would like to give a big shout-out to a Nurse that went far and above the call of duty with dignity and respect!

Laurel was working with a patient who was unable to manage their behavior due to an emotional state. Laurel kept a calm voice and continued to try to redirect the patient. Laurel continued to reach out to the patient with good eye contact, explain the process, and being firm with boundaries.
Laurel never took what the patient said personally or reacted negatively to it. I was so impressed with her demeanor and skill-set. I asked her how long she had been a Nurse. To my surprise, she said only a year and a half (Alma College's finest).
Throughout the night, Laurel maintained and cared for the patient with such dignity and respect that even the patient told me to tell Laurel she was sorry for her behavior and that Laurel did not deserve that. It is a pleasure to see the Beaumont concepts of Care, Safety, Welfare, and Security put into action. I have seen Laurel practice this kindness and integrity with other patients. When patients eventually regain some form of emotional control, they often recall how people treated them when they were in that state. Laurel provided the utmost respect, and the patient acknowledged that to me.
I am not a Nurse, but I am proud to have witnessed what excellence in Nursing is!
