After spending 6 days in the hospital, the doctors kept trying to discharge me, but Lauren knew something was wrong and kept advocating for me to stay.
I am a first-time mom and was a patient at the hospital for 9 days. Originally, I was being monitored closely for hyperemesis and admitted due to having contractions. In addition, I had to follow up twice a week with the doctor because my baby had a rare umbilical vein disorder where it could cause her to throw a clot and go stillborn. That being said, the doctors were worried that I was going to go into preterm labor, so they wanted to monitor me and the baby.

That next day, we met with the high-risk specialist who said I had to have an urgent c-section as soon as she turned 34 weeks because her umbilical vein doubled in size in just 3 days. With that said, I am also a nurse, and so I was absolutely terrified. Post c-section, my baby went to the NICU, and that’s when I met Lauren. She was the kindest nurse I had ever met and quickly became like family. I had her off and on for almost 4 shifts post-baby, and she took such good care of me. She encouraged me to walk post-epidural, helped clean me, took me to see my baby, and became my biggest advocate when things went sideways.

After spending 6 days in the hospital, the doctors kept trying to discharge me, but Lauren knew something was wrong and kept advocating for me to stay. My blood pressure kept climbing, my nausea returned, body aches appeared, and I just felt off. Lauren figured out that I had preeclampsia and needed to stay longer, and a few days later, we found out I was severely withdrawing from all of the nausea medications I was on due to the hyperemesis. Compazine and scopolamine patches triggered a severe reaction where I was rigoring, could not walk due to the shaking, dry heaving, sweating profusely, and crying non-stop. If Lauren had not followed her nurse's intuition, I don’t know where I would be. She truly helped save me. Since then, she has checked on me consistently while I’ve been with my daughter in the NICU, and her mom even knitted our daughter this incredibly beautiful blanket. Lauren truly forever changed our lives, and my husband and I couldn’t be more grateful! She is truly making such a difference in patient care!
