Lauren stood there with open arms and a big hug and sat and comforted both my husband and me.
After giving birth to my daughter H both H and I ran into complications that caused us to have a longer stay. I went through several tests. I had a 3-year-old at home that I really began to miss, especially having gone into labor on a holiday. I was very nervous. I also suffer anxiety prior to pregnancy, and it came on so strong during all of this.
Lauren Buckley truly was an angel sent to us. She went above and beyond her daily duties. She paged doctors when it took a while to hear back on test results, she made sure everything was explained to me and that I understood. She even sat with my daughter when I had a panic attack going down for a full-body scan so my husband could come with me. I had a slight reaction to the dye in my body scan that was injected and the floor had called up to give a heads up on that and she was waiting for me in my room and calmed me down and was so helpful. When I was nervous about an allergic reaction to a medication, she sat with me the whole time and distracted me by talking about the Friends episode on TV. I have bad reactions to meds, so she was so encouraging and made sure she told the doctors all about them. She did a bunch of things every day like that to help put me at ease.
When they told me one night, I was being discharged I was so happy. My husband and I packed up and got H all dressed to go home and our family was waiting with my other daughter and last minute told me they didn’t like something in my scan that came through and I may need to stay to the next day. I was devastated. I started to sob hysterically- I was tired, anxious, and missing my other daughter. Lauren stood there with open arms and a big hug and sat and comforted both my husband and me. She went off shift that night, I did have to stay another night, but felt comforted enough by Lauren.
We honestly can’t thank Lauren enough for her care while my daughter and I were there. H and I are happy and healthy and forever grateful. I often think to myself that Lauren probably thought she was doing her job, but to me, it meant the world. I never will forget the amazing care and kindness that Lauren provided my husband, daughter, and myself while there. I think all the nurses at MGH are great, but Lauren is exceptional. She deserves to be recognized for her compassion and excellence.
