May 2020 Honoree
lauren christenson, BSN, RN
I want to recognize Lauren for her compassionate care of a patient on comfort measures who was to leave on hospice. Despite being busy with 6 patients, Lauren diligently stayed on top giving this patient their every 2-hour morphine and Ativan to make sure they were comfortable.
When I checked on the patient, I found that Lauren had left her personal cell phone in the room set to soft soothing music in her desire to comfort a dying patient in any small manner.
When the end was imminent, Lauren sat and held the patient's hand so she wouldn't pass from this world alone. As the charge nurse, I was very touched by Lauren's compassion and caring. Even though the patient was non-responsive, I felt like Lauren made a huge difference in her final moments.
