4. One reason I decided to go into nursing was my health. I have a chronic respiratory disease known as Cystic Fibrosis. I have always been around health care so it felt natural to stay within the field. I chose nursing because of the many opportunities and I wanted to help those in need, just like the care I received over the years. I am very blessed with a mild condition of Cystic Fibrosis and I don?t let it get in the way of anything I want to accomplish. I stay healthy by keeping up with my therapies, medications, and doctor visits all while going to post graduate school full time, taking care of a toddler, a husband and keeping together a household. So when students say they are stressed or busy, I completely understand but stress the importance of self-care. Over the years, I have taken care of many patients. I have witnessed miracles, births, and deaths but the days I felt I truly made a difference were the days when the patient?s said thank you and I could feel their sincerity. Now I get to teach students what it means to ?care? it hopes they will pass down the same values when they graduate.
