Lauren de-escalated a situation with me that could have ended poorly and with a lot more problems than we had. I hadn't had my psych meds in a couple of days due to surgery, and I started to have a manic episode. She saw this and knew just what to do, not as a nurse, but as a person who also suffers from a mental health disorder and a person who cared. It was a pretty bad night, as I was ready to rip my chest tube out and leave, but with Lauren's help, we got through it. Not only did she help me that night, but she also requested to be my nurse the next two nights. I certainly don't think I would have been real quick to go back to that situation, but it didn't faze her. She handled it with grace!
