Lauren was my nurse on admittance to the PCU. I had spent the majority of the morning in the ED prior to being admitted. Due to a bleeding ulcer, my Hbg was low and the entire process was a new experience for me. I had an endoscopic procedure done and when I returned to the unit, Lauren was checking my gag reflex due to local spray that was used for the procedure. She ordered a liquid diet to be on the safe side to prevent choking and aspiration as the gag reflex was absent. She showed attention to the detail and followed up after this procedure and my safety. Due to my dizziness and unsteady gait, she put the bed alarms on for safeguards when I was getting out of bed. Of course, I was not dizzy as I leaned from side to side and was unsteady on my ambulation to the bathroom. Lauren followed core values of the hospital in showing concern for my well-being, being thorough, compassionate, caring for my needs and attention to detail with concerns for my safety. She was knowledgeable about the medication and explained the purpose of each drug. She was charge nurse for the unit with increased responsibility for other patients but showed kindness and incredible giving of her skills.
