I came in due to a blood infection, and I was full of anxiety, fear, embarrassment, and more emotions than I could count. I was placed in a shared room, and as a private person, this absolutely terrified me. This RN’s compassion immediately kicked in and, staring me in the face, told me it was going to be okay. She had known me for less than five minutes, but she had tears in her eyes as she began the mission of making my stay one of her priorities. 

Starting with meds, she went through all my concerns and traced down any missing. She tirelessly called to see about rooming options and helped me plan a surprise gift for my roommate, who happened to be a homeless person. 

She listened to my fear of what a blood infection is, and she carefully and slowly addressed wounds on my body. All these nurse duties were mixed in with the utmost care and respect, shared love of Chipotle, and stories of her two sons, whom she adores. She made me feel like I was talking to my sister, not a nurse. 

I also had questions and concerns about my stay, to which she responded with, “This is the best hospital, and I work with the best people.” Her devotion to her career and this unit is apparent. 

This RN was the best thing in the mornings, sneaking in a caring hug before her day started. I treasured those moments.

For any anxiety-ridden, scared, or confused person, this RN is the nurse you want and need. She made the difference in my stay, and I’m very grateful.
