Dr. Basone has very high standards and can be tough on her students, but she also is very compassionate and takes pride in guiding them along their professional journey.
I would like to nominate Dr. Lauren Ginger Brown Basone for the Legend in Nursing award. I cannot think of a more memorable person to receive the award. Ginger has been a registered nurse since 1977. She has worn many hats ranging from a med-surg nurse, emergency department nurse, house supervisor, chief nursing officer, professor, and more. Ginger is a military veteran who served in the Army Nurse Corp and was stationed in Hawaii. I have heard many incredible stories about the care Ginger provided to her patients on the oncology and women’s health floor while serving our country.
In her most recent years, Ginger has worked as a nursing professor. She has impacted so many young nurses’ lives. Ginger is known for her “line ups” every morning before the clinical day to make sure her students are prepared. She is known for her sense of fashion and ability to coordinate her scrubs, lab coat, and jewelry. She has very high standards and can be tough on her students, but she also is very compassionate and takes pride in guiding them along their professional journey.
Ginger is a Lake Charles native who loves promoting nursing. She has been employed by McNeese State University in the past and is currently adjunct faculty for SOWELA. She has recruited countless numbers of newly graduated to work at LCMH by connecting her graduating students with leadership. I consider Dr. Ginger Basone to be a legend in nursing for our community.
