Lauren Grabowski, BSN, RN works in the Urology practice at Elkins Park and Tabor Road is a deserving recipient of The DAISY Award. Lauren's clinical skill and especially her compassionate care exemplify the kind of nurse that should be recognized as an outstanding role model.
In May of last year, my health took a hard left turn. I was simultaneously faced with several life altering issues with which I needed to deal. My physician discovered that I had a high grade cancer that would require surgery and chemotherapy. During this time of high anxiety, confusion, and uncertainty, I was blessed to cross paths with Lauren.
Lauren exhibited empathy as she provided education, helping me to understand what was happening. She also taught me how to perform procedures for myself and ensured that I had the proper materials to do so - all while maintaining a smile. She went out of her way to let me know that I could call on her for any assistance I may need. This helped to calm some of my fears.
After surgery and chemo, Lauren checked in with me to see how things were going and to see if there was anything that she could do to help. At one point, my situation required different supplies - which Lauren deftly handled - again with a smile. Even when I experienced several infections which required me to visit the office on frequent occasions, Lauren always provided prompt, cheerful, caring service.
My condition requires regular checkups, tests and minor procedures. When I arrived for one of these visits recently, I became anxious when a different nurse greeted me. Much to my relief, at that moment, Lauren appeared and assured me that this nurse was just getting me into the room and that she, Lauren, would be providing my care during the procedure. Her professional, calm demeanor serves to reduce my anxiety. I know that I am in good hands.
If it would ever become possible to clone personality, attitude, and skill, Lauren should be on that list!
