The Peds CVICU is better because of her caring, compassionate, and dedicated leadership.
I've had the honor of seeing Lauren grow from a bedside nurse, to an ANM, and now a nurse manager. And Lauren is just as compassionate as a nurse manager as she was when she was at the bedside. She does not shy away from basic patient care. If the unit is busy, or even if it's not, she will go into a room to console a crying patient, change a dirty diaper, or hang a flush. She genuinely cares about the well-being of her staff. She is a great listener and counselor. I personally have grown into a better leader because of her influence and guidance. I'm not just a better nurse but a better person because of her. The Peds CVICU is better because of her caring, compassionate, and dedicated leadership.

Lauren demonstrates every quality that this award represents.  I watched her become a CVICU nurse when 6 Wolfson dissolved at one point.  She was new to the pediatric world and is now learning the ropes of some of the most delicate patients in the CVICU.  Lauren was an extraordinary bedside nurse.  She later became the Assistant Nurse Manager of the CVICU and continued giving compassionate care to the patients and families, as well as being an amazing leader for staff.  During this time, I have watched her grow as a leader. She is now the manager of the CVICU and most recently became the manager of the new NICU 7 on Borowy.  As a new manager in the Weaver Tower, Lauren helped navigate our move into the new Borowy Tower.  As the census has grown and staffing has sometimes been short, Lauren has taken a full patient assignment to help.  She comes in on the weekends to help the nightshift, and while this is not ideal because she has already worked a full week, she does it because she cares for the safety of the patients and the morale of her staff.  Although rounding on patients is part of her job, she does it so well, and families appreciate her, too.  Her dedication is something many should strive to have. She is very sensitive to the needs of the staff as well as their personal lives.  She is there for her staff any time of the day. Her sweet spirit is why she is so approachable and easy to bounce your frustrations and concerns off of.  She has helped me many times navigate through tough decisions, and sometimes I can just look at her, and she knows what I am going to say. She is also involved in committees at work and often joins staff for runs and outside activities the unit does as a whole. Lauren exemplifies the quality of what a DAISY Nurse Leader should be.  Thanks, Lauren, for all you do.
