Lauren was providing care for an admitted patient whose medical workup was still in progress. The patient informed her that she needed to be discharged to attend a scheduled procedure at a different medical facility. Knowing the nature of the planned procedure and the medication the patient had received, Lauren determined that it was likely unsafe for the patient to proceed with the external procedure.

Lauren contacted the Outpatient Surgery Center, where the patient was scheduled, to verify the medication restrictions for the procedure. By taking this proactive step to ensure patient safety, she facilitated communication between the attending physician and the procedure provider. All of our nursing staff were highly impressed by the diligence she demonstrated in prioritizing her patient's safety.
