How can I help?" "What can I do for you?" These are often phrases you can hear Lauren saying to her co-workers and patients. Lauren demonstrates each NYP value to the fullest extent. Her compassion, care, and dedication surpasses what is expected. Whether Lauren is in charge, helping out with UPC, or being a wonderful staff nurse, she continuously goes the extra mile. Lauren is such a great resource on the floor, always able to provide insight. She genuinely wants to be of assistance and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Lauren is the kind of person that won't leave for the day unless she knows her co workers are all finished up and almost on their way out. She truly defines the meaning of a team player. Given our fragile patient population where things can turn so quickly, it is comforting to know you have someone you can always count on.

To highlight the type of care that Lauren provides, a specific patient comes to mind. This was an emergency situation, the patient was hypotensive, tachycardic, febrile and MICU bound. The medical team had been ordering labs, medications, and various tests. Through all of this, Lauren kept her calm and in turn was able to keep the patient at ease. She held his hand reassured him in her soothing voice she understood how frightening this must be and reminded the patient to breathe. All the while, she was executing orders and assessing any change in the patient's status. In such a situation where everything seems to be moving so fast, Lauren was able to to do her job and successfully keep the patient still.

Lauren is looked to as a role model by our unit and the other oncology units. Staff members comment how she is a true team player, keeping calm in stressful situations, always keeping focused on the bigger picture and how to provide the best care for our patients.
