I saw Ren talking to my mom in a low and loving voice. She positioned and rotated her in order to give her the ability to breathe easier and provide comfort.
My mother, A, was admitted to the ICU with respiratory distress. My mother, took a turn for the worse and was intubated and sedated. I arrived at her room around 8:00. There was a nurse that took my breath away. I saw her talking to my mom in a low and loving voice. She positioned and rotated her in order to give her the ability to breathe easier and provide comfort. This was the first nurse, who actually invested in my mom. My mom‘s heartbeat kept going down, and she took the initiative to lower the fentanyl in an effort to raise her heart rate. She explained everything she did and every step. She also took the initiative to remove the restraints from my mom‘s arms – having been at Fair Oaks for nine days, I had an opportunity to meet several nurses. We have been here since Saturday and have had several nurses. “Ren” stands out for the following:

1) compassion, 2) ensuring the patient gets what they need, 3) going above and beyond, 4) being cognizant of the patient's needs and tackling them head-on, and 5) checking on my mom on a recurring basis without me calling. I cannot possibly write enough. She is an amazing nurse who makes the patient feel safe and cared for. This hospital needs many more “Rens.”
