September 2013 Honoree
lauren rogers, RN
Lauren was nominated by a very grateful mother. Lauren cared for the nominator's infant son with multiple heart defects. Her husband is active duty Air Force and was not able to be with her during most of their son's stay in the hospital. Dealing with these life events can be difficult, especially alone. One day, the mother was reduced to tears because she had seen four different doctors with four different plans of care in just six hours. Lauren stepped in, comforted the mother, and initiated a meaningful conversation between the surgeon and the mother to clarify any misunderstandings and allow the mother to have more say in the child's care. She was an advocate and because of Lauren's forward thinking, the mother was able to be comfortable with the plan discussed.
Thank you, Lauren, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
